Revisiting the Black Solder Farming

Image
Black solder fly is the protein menu for animal feeds that are locally bred. The farmers find it cheaper to breed the flies to supplement animal feeds, instead of relying on sylver cyprinid, commonly known as omena. Omena is expensive because it has limited sources. After all, they are extracted from freshwater lakes with animal and human demands. Animal feeds require a balanced diet to boost their growth and protein is the main body-building component that will ensure the animals grow within the expected period.  Animal feeds require 40 to 50 percent protein contents which increases protein demands. The scarcity of protein sources leads to an increase in animal feed prices. Stunted growth leads to losses because the farmer will be tempted to sell the animals at a throw-away price after rearing them longer than expected. Incorporation of relevant business practices is paramount in boosting farm produce, unlike the traditional methods where animal rearing is done as a form ...

Lucrative Citrus Fruits Worth Investing in 2025

If you are still wondering about the type of fruit business to venture into, then citrus farming is the best option. Citrus farming is manageable because it requires minimal rainfall. A tree can consume up to 200 liters per week within the first year but the amount reduces as the tree grows old. A single farmer can easily manage several acres of land. There is no exhaustion of citrus market because the fruits are recommended to boost children's and adult immunity. The fruits are less perishable which means transporting them by road is safe and can survive for weeks without spoiling.

Pixie fruits have the highest prices compared to other fruits. One tone of the fruits costs 1,100 dollars equivalent to 150, 000 Kenyan shillings. Selling in bulk is advisable to minimize the harvesting costs because the harvesting is done in intervals. Land preparation and acquisition of seedlings per acre ranges from 80,000 to 200, 000. The farmer has to incur expenses for two years before harvesting the first fruits. Maintenance requires proper pest control by the use of traps and pesticides.

During planting, ten kilograms of organic manure are used and an additional 20 kilograms is undertaken after a year to supply sufficient nutrients to prepare the plant for flowering. Continuous addition of fertilizer is done after every harvest to boost yields in the next flowering season. Selection of seedling suppliers is essential to ensure the seedlings have reached maturity and can survive on their own. The recommended maturity period is one year of nursery care. A mature well-kept tree produces up to 120 kilograms of fruits within five years.
